• Referenced by...: Hellboy once met the younger sister of the tale when investigating a troll rampage. In this version, the cow-girl stayed a cow, and Hellboy doesn't even need to fight the trolls: he just leaves the wooden spoon (that the sister has used to beat down the trolls in the original story) at the mouth of their cave, and the trolls are so terrified of the spoon that they stay outside until daylight, at which point they turn to stone.
