• The Character Died with Him: Following the death of Mark McManus, Jim Taggart was killed off, complete with an on-screen funeral.
• Referenced by...: The Fast Show parodied the show's continuation after the death of its protagonist and actor with McMonkfish, complete with the heavy Scottish pronunciation of the word "murder".
• You Look Familiar: Both Alex Norton (DCI Matt Burke) and John Michie (DI Robbie Ross) make appearances as murder suspects years before joining the main cast. Also Geraldine Alexander, who played the Taggart's daughter Allison in the pilot episode came back 25 years later as a different character.
