- Accidentally-Correct Writing: It's not exaggerated in the film, but they show Sully struggling to disengage the inflated slide from the plane to become an independent raft. Hanks mentioned that he felt silly that as a pilot he should know how every emergency feature on the plane works. The real Sully said they actually had the same problem, it really did take some time to figure it out.
- Billing Displacement:
- The NTSB board members, which consist of multiple well-known character actors (including Anna Gunn and Jamey Sheridan) are billed right under Tom Hanks and Aaron Eckhart, yet they only appear in three scenes, and only two of them (Mike O'Malley and Gunn) have more than a couple lines of dialogue. The rest rarely or never speak.
- Laura Linney (Lorraine Sullenberger) is billed tenth, despite appearing in more scenes throughout the film and having a more pivotal role (several conversations with Sully).
- Distanced from Current Events: The movie's release was postponed in Brazil after a plane crash
that killed nearly all of a soccer team, plus some journalists that would cover said team's match. - Dyeing for Your Art: Tom Hanks's hair and mustache were dyed to be much whiter than his natural hair color to match the real Chesley Sullenberger's hair color.
