• Aborted Arc:
  • In the first months of the game's release, there was a possibility that Twain would come onto the radio and solemnly announce Lily's death, having passed from her Lupus and blames Red Talon for hoarding medicine. However this dialogue was eventually taken out, and it seems that Lily's actually doing just fine as she is mentioned in Heartland and makes multiple radio appearances during Mickey and Ray's quest line for the Homecoming update.
  • A devlog going over some original plots of the first State of Decay revealed that Ray Santos was initially going to be set up as a villain in the form of a Corrupt Politician; however due to time constraints, they were unable to explore this avenue and thus delivered the Ray we know today.
• Lampshade Hanging:
  • In a devlog that was livestreamed and posted to the official State of Decay youtube account, they go into depth about the creation and development of many aspect about State of Decay 2. Many of SoD's elements are vague on purpose as to convey the fact that regular people would most likely never figure out where they really come from; things like why all freaks look similar, where blood plague came from, how other countries are faring during the apocalypse, and so on via Word of God.
• Word of God:
  • According to Brant Fitzgerald, the story of Red Talon running a labor camp is left purposefully mysterious, and certain aspects (such as Cammie potentially lying about the labor camps) are also left vague.
