!!TV Series

* ActorAllusion: In one episode, Starsky says Hutch sounds like "Dirty Harry, a cop in San Francisco". David Soul costarred in ''Film/MagnumForce'', the second ''Film/DirtyHarry'' movie.
* TheCastShowoff: David Soul is a professional musician; Hutch therefore is given opportunity to sing and play guitar in a number of episodes.
* DirectedByCastMember: Chances to direct were part of the deal to get Glaser to come back to the show. He directed five, Soul directed three.
* EnforcedMethodActing:
** In the episode "The Fix", Hutch becomes forcibly addicted to heroin after gangsters kidnap him. David Soul prepared for the episode by depriving himself of sleep, food, and even bathing and isolated himself from the cast and crew. It got to the point where they began to genuinely worry about his mental health.
** In the episode "A Coffin for Starsky", Starsky and Hutch are racing against the clock to find a criminal that injected Starsky with a deadly poison that's slowly killing him. In one scene Starsky collapses in a fit of pain. While this was scripted, Paul intentionally fell earlier than what was rehearsed, and Hutch's shocked reaction is genuine.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: An iconic series in both France and Germany, and arguably even more successful in Britain than at home (David Soul just about lives in the UK now).
* ThePeteBest: In the pilot, Captain Dobey was played by Richard Ward; the role was then recast with Bernie Hamilton.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: Check out the disco, for starters.

* ActorAllusion: Starsky causes a MexicanStandoff in Huggy's bar when he accidentally shoots the tail off of his pet iguana Corky. Oddly enough, this isn't the only movie where shooting an animal called "Corky" gets Creator/BenStiller in trouble. ''Film/{{Envy}}'' (released the same year as this film) had Stiller's character accidentally killing a ''horse'' named Corky (owned by Creator/JackBlack's character) with a bow and arrow, kicking off [[HilarityEnsues two hours of hijinks]].
* TheCastShowoff: Owen Wilson gets to show off his singing talent, which also provides a homage to the original Hutch as that particular number was written by David Soul, who portrayed him in the series.
