• Expanded Universe: Spin-off relaunch novel A Pocket Full of Lies reveals that the temporal rift that fractured Voyager into multiple timelines in this episode was actually the result of a temporal warhead fired by the Krenim after they learned of the events of "Year of Hell", their actions allowing them to capture Past!Janeway and manipulate her into becoming a leader of a pointless conflict on an alien planet in the belief that this would prevent Janeway interfering with their own efforts.
