Trivia / Star Trek Voyager S 5 E 11 Latent Image

  • Creator Backlash: Kate Mulgrew didn't care for the alterations made to the episode's ending, preferring the originally-scripted version.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Robert Picardo said that this is his favorite Voyager episode.
  • Recycled Script: This story has some similarities to TNG's "Clues", where characters find evidence of a buried incident, the difference being that in "Clues", the artificially intelligent officer (Data) was trying to stop everyone else from finding out the truth, and here, the artificially intelligent officer (The Doctor) is the one trying to get to the truth.
  • What Could Have Been: In the original script, the final scene had the Doctor going on a long speech about his guilt, and openly expressing his doubts as to whether he'd ever truly be able to forgive himself, even if he knew there was nothing he could have done. When he was done with the speech, he saw that Janeway had fallen asleep, and quietly took her book and started reading it. Executive producer Brannon Braga thought the ending was too ambiguous and downbeat, and rewrote it to have the Doctor wake up Janeway, then comically over-react to her having a slightly-elevated body temperature, making it clear that he was starting to return to normal, before sending Janeway back to her quarters and reading the book that she left behind.
