• Ascended Fanon:
  • While Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home established that Kirk was from Iowa, it didn't give an exact birthplace. The city of Riverside declared itself as such (with approval from Gene himself), but this episode is when it's officially confirmed.
  • This episode basically confirms fan assumptions that time traveling agents have skewed with the original Star Trek timeline periodically but largely resulted in a Close-Enough Timeline to account for continuity and timeline issues, especially when it comes to Khan and the Eugenics Wars originally taking place in the 90's. Sera expressly says she's been biding her time on Earth since 1992 and almost name drops the Temporal Cold War from Star Trek: Enterprise, where this theory came from.
• Author's Saving Throw: The episode establishes that too much time traveling can make events happen later, as the Eugenics Wars have been moved from their original date of 1992 to sometime past the 2020s due to time travelers trying to change the outcome. Since the original timeline has long become a Failed Future Forecast, this gives writers more wiggle room and the ability to move events around without compromising the overall timeline, as well as explaining any inconsistencies up until now.
• Fan Nickname: "The City On The Edge Of Lake Ontario."
• Filming Location Cameo: Strange New Worlds and Discovery have frequently filmed scenes in Toronto and its environs; this is the first time Toronto has appeared as Toronto in Star Trek (and indeed the first Star Trek production with any scenes set in Canada).
• Meaningful Release Date: Possibly accidental, but this episode was set in Canada (in a major Canadian city, no less) and ended up being released two days before Canada Day.
• Real Life Writes the Plot:
  • Of the first three episodes of this season, this is the second to barely feature any scenes with Captain Christopher Pike. When it was being filmed, Anson Mount had just become a father and was on paternity leave.
  • The episode was originally to have been set in New York City, but it would have been too expensive to film there and too complicated to redress Toronto (where SNW often films) as New York, so they decided to simply set the show in Toronto.
