Trivia / Star Trek S2 E11 "Friday's Child"

Go To

  • Looping Lines: Lots of dialogue looping was used in this episode because of the outdoor setting. Some of the dubbing was crammed together, nearly on top of other lines.
  • Scully Box: The actors playing Capellan warriors were given elevated shoes to make them appear like giants. Maab's high headgear served the same purpose.
  • What Could Have Been: In D. C. Fontana's original script, Eleen sacrificed her child for her own life. But Gene Roddenberry objected to this and changed the ending. Eleen was originally written to be a stronger character who rebels against the male-dominated Capellan society but this was also changed.
    • James Blish's novelisation has Eleen executed by Maab anyway, as an adulteress, and Maab himself is killed later on by the baby-daddy (rather than by the Klingon) who is subsequently appointed regent...as the biological father of the baby born to the late wife of the rightful Teer Akaar. Kirk doesn't pretend to make sense of any of this.
