Blooper: In the close-up of SpongeBob's paper after writing the title, the word "stoplight" is misspelled as "spotlight".
Deleted Scene: A significant portion was cut from reruns in the US (in areas such as the UK, it remains). In one scene, SpongeBob looks out the window at his friends having fun and bemoans having to stay inside to write his essay, but reminds himself that, once it's finished, he'll be one step closer to getting his driver's license (punctuated by stock footage of a dragster wrecking). He then does some exercises to "get those creative juices pumpin'!" Exactly why the scene was cut remains a point of contention (some theorize that it's because Patrick looked like he was undoing Sandy's bikini when he's rubbing lotion on her shoulders and SpongeBob making his nose flex looked too phallic, or the censors came to the quite-honestly insane conclusion that kids would try to imitate the dragster crash) though it wasn't until 2005 that the episode had been edited. Deleting the scene also creates a minor plothole in which the specific time SpongeBob possibly fell asleep isn't shown, as in the deleted scene, when SpongeBob tries to write his essay before going to exercise, he falls over on his desk into the same position he is in when he wakes up towards the end of the episode. As of October 2019, the episode is now uncensored when it airs on Nicktoons, and as of 2021, is available on Paramount+.
