• Executive Meddling: Richard Elson's cover was initially rejected by SEGA of Japan for not meeting their stylistic standards. They asked him to redraw it in a style that more closely matched the current look of the cast, though Elson refused to redraw the whole thing. In the end, a compromise was met, with Elson only redrawing Tails.
• Milestone Celebration: Of a sort. The special is the 900th overall English-language Sonic comic published, accounting for every individual comic published by Archie, Fleetway, IDW, and others, which includes reprints of older books. The total accounted for this milestone can be found here.
• Out of Order: The special is set, and was originally intended to release before the "Endless Summer" one-shot. The release order was reversed thanks to this special being delayed a month.
