Trivia / Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW): 30th Anniversary Special

Go To

  • Creator-Driven Successor: "Seasons of Chaos" can be considered a successor to Sonic: Mega Drive from Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics), with both featuring original "zones" and layouts that would look like it could come from the games; just replace the search for gears with Chaos Emeralds. The primary difference is that the art wasn't done by Tyson Hesse.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The comic was released on June 23, 2021, the 30th anniversary of the first Sonic game.
  • Milestone Celebration: As the title states, it's part of Sonic's 30th anniversary.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Many of the cameos drawn by Mauro Fonseca had to be cut, and he had to avoid mentioning others to the colorist, as they were not approved by Sega. The cut cameos were from old Sega properties not related to Sonic, such as Professor Asobin, an unofficial mascot; the kat from Rockin Kats, Bin from Dynamite Dux (known for inspiring the creation of Bean the Dynamite); the main characters from Psycho Fox, the Skull from Pirate Sega, and the Japanese mascot for Sonic Channel.
    • According to Ian Flynn (BumbleKast Q&A October 25, 2021 13:41), there would have been a Modern Sonic 2021 annual that tied to the main comic. It is also where Belle's origin would have been explored.
  • Word of God: According to Mauro Fonseca, one of the pilots in Sonic Learns to Drive is his own redesign of Gazebo Boobowski from the cancelled Sonic Xtreme videogame.
