Trivia / Sonic Jam

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The game has not seen a rerelease past the Sega Saturn and is unlikely to get one anytime soon, meaning the only (legal) option you have is to buy a physical copy and a Sega Saturn, neither of which are easy to find, nor cheap. On top of that, Saturn emulation is rough, which makes it hard to see it that way.
  • Newbie Boom: Since, in a reverse of the rest of the world's preferences, the Sega Saturn was far more popular than the Mega Drive in Japan, this compilation was largely responsible for kickstarting the Japanese Sonic fandom.
  • What Could Have Been: According to a 2007 Retro Gamer Magazine interview with Takashi Iizuka, Sonic World is all that remains of the scrapped Saturn version of Sonic Adventure. The above link also suggests that Yuji Naka's breakdown over Sonic Xtreme's use of the NiGHTS into Dreams… engine may have been because of Adventure's concurrent development. An early and late draft of X-treme's plot also reads quite similar to that of Adventure, suggesting Sonic Team may have reused resources from the failed project for their own. Analyzing Jam and Adventure shows evidence that some of Sonic's animations were reused for Adventure (along with the Saturn port of Sonic 3D Blast: Flicky's Island).
  • Working Title: "Sonic Ages".
