- Executive Meddling: In the original planned ending, Thakur kills Gabbar. However, during pre-production, the Indian film board forced Sippy to re-shoot the scene so that the two are instead stopped by some police officers who appear out of nowhere in the nick of time. The initial theatrical release depicted the second ending, while all home video releases from 1990 onward show the first ending.
- Real-Life Relative: Jaya Badhuri, who plays Amitabh's love interest, was already married to him when they filmed this, and she was pregnant with one of their children.
