Trivia / Sheriff Hayseed

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: In a comment made on the Blackjack short, Todd's VA Eloediel confirmed that both he and Todd suck at basic math.
  • Acting for Two: In "Boomerang In A Gun Fight", ShadyVox voices both Shawn Burrowitz and Lloyd Herdwick.
  • The Cast Showoff: Though it doesn't appear in the actual shorts, Shawn has quite the singing voice due to being voiced by ShadyVox, who himself is an accomplished musician.
  • Creator Backlash: A much more minor example. Mike stated one of the biggest reasons he ultimately left the series unfinished was due to a drive to wanting it to be "REALLY good" and perfectionism getting to him, stating he'd be looking forward to trying new ideas and taking time to focus on living life and health after years of retooling.
Mike: I'm unsure if I'll ever return to Sherif Hayseed. It goes unfinished for a variety of reasons, budget constraints, the merch store collapse, MOST of all a long-term wrist injury, but on top of it all it was a very personal feeling that I simply can't make Sheriff Hayseed as good as I want it to be. And I really wanted it to be REALLY good.
I worked and iterated for actual years and that feeling that it wasn't good enough never went away. In the end, perfectionism got me. I'll be a lot happier setting it aside.
  • Development Hell: The project ended up undergoing various retools as Mike had wanted to make Sherrif Hayseed the best he wanted it to be. The very personal chase in that goal and perfectionism was one of the largest reasons the series ultimately ended up shelved.
  • Fake American: All four characters in the main cast are voiced by non-American actors, although the series takes place in the Wild West. Shawn and Lloyd are voiced by British actor ShadyVox, Mayor Joy is voiced by British actress Anna Chloe Moorey, and Todd is voiced by Canadian actor Eloediel.
  • Screwed by the Merchandise: "The Quick Pickpocket" was intended to have a line of merchandise launch alongside it, but the company hosting the Piemations merch store collapsed overnight. This was one of many contributing factors to the end of the series. Samples of the developed merch were shown off at the end of the short's released animatic.
  • Troubled Production: One of the biggest reasons the project was ultimately scrapped. Creative difficulties had already left Mike unfulfilled, but further shorts were shelved when a combination of realizing the final art style being too high budget to maintain, the merch store collapse, and most of all a long-term wrist injury making him unable to take on the immense workload (given the high complexity of the Harmony assets and how personal it was made it hard to pass the work onto others). The decision was then made to simply release a finalized style test and the completed storyboard for the last produced installment.
  • Word of Gay: Piemations confirmed on Twitter that Todd is gay, Shawn is bisexual and Mayor Joy is asexual and aromantic.
