Box Office Bomb: Budget, $95 million. Gross, $7,101,000 (domestic so far), $90,701,000 (worldwide so far).
The Danza: Almost. Alicia Vikander plays Alice Deane and Benjamin Thomas Barnes plays Thomas Ward.
Disowned Adaptation: According to author Joseph Delaney on his blog "I think the film is fun and worth watching once, but I am not happy with it. A Netflix series with time to develop characters and have full dialogue would be much better. I have no control over what happens and the rights still belong to the film people but I do hope that will change."
Fake American: Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander and Olivia Williams all use American accents for their characters.
The Shelf of Movie Languishment: Filmed in early 2012, the movie was originally slated for release in 2013 - but a number of factors, including the sudden bankruptcy of the visual effects studio, the decision to convert the film into 3D, and the transition from Warner Bros. to Universal as distributor, ultimately delayed it to January 2014 and then again to February 2015, when it was finally released.
Stillborn Franchise: The open ending certainly left room for at least one more sequel, despite how much different this film is from the first book (mainly because the film cobbled together several elements of the novels into one), but the disastrous box office and pitiful reviews pretty much doomed any possibility of a potential franchise. It's nothing the book's fans would be complaining about though.
