Trivia / Serious Sam 3: BFE

  • Development Gag:
    • The Khnum and Scrapjack enemies and the "Canned Cain" multiplayer skin were initially created as part of a pitch Croteam made after being approached by id Software to assist in developing what would become Doom (2016).
    • Croteam once planned to include Duke Nukem 3D-like pipebombs in Serious Sam: The First Encounter, which were nothing more than the grenade launcher ammo thrown separately from the actual grenade launcher. The concept eventually made its actual debut in this game as the C4 explosives.
    • The majority of the modern day Egypt levels came from Croteam's cancelled military shooter T.E.O.R., which was in development a few years before BFE entered production.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Two, in fact. Undercode contributed "Final Fight" and "The Gladiator" to the game's soundtrack.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • BFE started its development as a completely different game unrelated to the Serious Sam franchise as a whole. Originally titled T.E.O.R., it was a military shooter published by Gamecock and Atari set in present day Somalia. The game was cancelled after the investors decided to pull the plug on the project. Not wanting to throw everything they worked into the trash, Croteam reused most of its assets and implemented them into BFE.
    • There are two unused pain/death sounds for the Sandwhale within the game's flies. It's unclear if it was going to be a boss or if it was planned to die in a cutscene.
    • The Rocket Launcher was planned to have a total redesign, being more sci-fi looking than its classic look.
