* OneBookAuthor: 5 marked the only movie appearance made by Music/MacMiller, marked as such by his death in 2018.

* FollowTheLeader: The success of the first film lead to other studios hiring Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer to make a series of unrelated and very poorly received parody films (''Epic Movie'', ''Date Movie'', ''Disaster Movie'', etc) that were marketed as being made by the same people who made ''Scary Movie''. * KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The theatrical cut of the first film contains dialogue that was cut from the home video version as the film's producers felt the film's skewering of Creator/GwynethPaltrow was more of an attack than in jest. The only way you can hear this dialogue is in bootlegs of the rough cut or theatrical cut.

** Creator/MelissaJoanHart was initially hired to star in the first film, going as far as doing costume tests, but was fired for an unknown reason.

** The wrecked plane set from ''Scary Movie 4'' was originally used in the movie they were parodying, ''Film/WarOfTheWorlds''.

** The Japanese dubs of the whole franchise deserves an special mention: Half of the voice cast previously worked together in the ''Film/{{Scream}}'' franchise, the very one the whole movie series lampoons, and in sometimes, some of the voice actors dubs their respective [[{{Expy}} expies]], starting with the main protagonist, Cindy Campbell, who was dubbed by Creator/MichikoNeya, who also voiced ''Scream'''s main protagonist, Sidney Prescott.
** A cross-language one between the Japanese and Latin American Spanish dubs: Cindy's respective voice actresses, Creator/MichikoNeya and Creator/ElsaCovian, both voiced [[Manga/GunsmithCats Rally Vincent]].

* BillingDisplacement: From some of the trailers and the poster for the fifth film, you'd think Creator/CharlieSheen was the star of the fifth film when he has only a few moments of screentime in the cold opening (along with Creator/LindsayLohan). Sarah Hyland is a OneSceneWonder and Creator/KatrinaBowden a mere bit player, but both appear prominently in the poster. But probably the biggest example is Mike Tyson, who also gets featured despite only having a 30 second long cameo.

** The ''Film/SawI'' parody bathroom was later used by the producers of ''Film/SawIII'' in their movie to save money, along with it noted to be rather close to the original room.

* DawsonCasting: Parioded, like everythig else in the movies. The first film includes a scene of the main cast all cracking wise at slashed films using 20something's and even early 30 year olds playing high schoolers, by people who fit that description perfectly.

** Brenda was originally intended as a LoveInterest for Shorty, before they were rewritten as siblings. Included on the Deleted Scenes of the DVD.

* DawsonCasting: Creator/AnnaFaris was in her early twenties when she played Cindy Campbell, who is supposed to be a high school student in the first film.
