Trivia / Robyn

Go To

  • Career Resurrection: She was a pretty popular '90s pop star before becoming disenchanted with the industry's rigid standards about content, prompting her to cancel her contract and return to her native Sweden for a while. She returned to prominence in 2005 with her eponymous fourth album, which got raves for its new electro-based style that contrasted her previous pop aesthetic. It also got her a Grammy nomination.
  • Completely Different Title: Honey was retitled 甜蜜藥劑 for its Chinese release, translating to "Sweet Medicine".
  • Executive Meddling: Pop stars in The '90s were expected to basically act like they just walked off of the Disney Channel. This didn't sell with Robyn, who wanted to sing about stronger, more responsible subject matter; and who wanted her songs to have a sharper edge informed by house and electro music. The first request was met with her second and third albums released only in Sweden; and the second request, when refused, prompted Robyn to end her contract with Jive Records and go it alone.
  • Production Posse: Klas Åhlund of Teddybears has had a hand in co-writing and co-producing every Robyn album since 2005.
  • Two-Hit Wonder: During her Teen Pop years, she had scored two hits in the United States during 1997-98 with "Do You Know (What It Takes)" and "Show Me Love" peaking at number 7. She could've avoided this label with "Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect)", which peaked at number 32 in the Hot 100 Airplay chart, had it not been ineligible in the main Hot 100 chart at the time due to it being an airplay-only single in the country.
