  • Creator Backlash: Ron Asheton and James Williamson criticised Iggy Pop's 1997 remix of the album because of its Loudness War tendencies.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The 2012 vinyl edition, which is almost universally regarded as being the best-sounding version of the album to date, was only released on vinyl. Naturally, it qualifies as this for people who don't have a record player (or can't afford to pick it up used). In 2023, a new remaster was issued digitally.
  • Troubled Production: A minor example in regards to the mixing. Iggy Pop's original mix was deemed unusable by Columbia Records, due to the crunchy-sounding audio quality and outdated stereo mixing techniques (in which all the instrumentals were pushed to one channel and all the vocals to the other). David Bowie was brought into the studio to create a more commercially-viable mix, but Columbia only gave him one day to do so. This, combined with the already poor-quality master recordings (borne out of Pop's desire to physically hurt the listener) led to a situation where the most Bowie could do was fiddle around with the volume levels and centralize the recording. The result was a mix frequently regarded as just as amateurish as Pop's version, if not more so, overall sounding unnaturally muffled (particularly in the bass & percussion parts), though it would serve as an influence on the thin sound of Hardcore Punk recordings in The '80s.
