  • Creator Backlash:
    • As revealed in an IndieWire article, both Raquel Lee Bolleau and Alexa Nikolas have expressed regret for agreeing to be involved with the docuseries upon finding out that it was made for Investigation Discovery. They felt that while the project did some good, it also did some harm by coming off as sensationalist and exploitative, with both feeling their stories deserved a more serious and credible platform.
    • Nikolas also claims that the producers begged her mother to agree to be interviewed, which required her traveling to Los Angeles from Las Vegas, only for them not to feature her at all. Nikolas went on to criticize the reduction of her own interview to mostly her description of the infamous "Goo Pop" scene from the Zoey 101 episode "Backpack", as the producers allegedly needed the actors to verbally mention a scene before they show it under "fair use" regulations. In several other interviews, Nikolas would describe several other traumatic memories from the Zoey 101 set, most infamously, being screamed at by Britney Spears after being falsely accused of bullying Jamie Lynn Spears, and being berated by Dan Schneider in a subsequent meeting that drove her to quit the show. As the series' release approached, Nikolas was angered at the fact that neither her nor any of the other interviewees were invited to a premiere event in Los Angeles, despite Kate Taylor informing her that she was going to be in the area without saying what for.
    • Marc Summers also revealed that he was misled by the creators regarding what the documentary was about, with him initially believing the series would be about the history of Nickelodeon and its kids programming. Once he realized what the project was really about midway through filming, he walked off. He later said that had he known what the documentary was about from the start, he wouldn't have participated because he and Dan Schneider never crossed paths at the network and, thus, he couldn't provide any accurate knowledge about Schneider's time as a show runner and treatment of the staff and actors.
