Trivia / Pure (2008)

  • Acclaimed Flop: While Disney never released any specific sales figures for the game, judging by how obscure this game has become in the years since its initial launch, it likely didn't set the world on fire. This is despite the fact that it received critic scores in the high 8/10-9/10 range, and how most people that have played it usually have good things to say about it.
  • Compilation Re-release: A twin-pack containing both this game and LEGO Batman: The Videogame was bundled in with select Xbox 360 units during the holiday season of 2009.
  • Creator's Oddball: Disney Interactive Studios focuses almost exclusively on pushing out tie-in game after tie-in game, so an original IP off-road arcade racer is quite the change of pace for the publisher. Downplayed somewhat, partially because it isn't Disney's first original video game IP, and partially because Black Rock's next game, also published by Disney, is a much harsher paradigm shift.
  • Late Export for You: The game didn't release at all in Japan until June 25th, 2009 - a whole nine months after players from the other side of the planet got their hands on it. It also released somewhat late in Australia, though they didn't get quite as bad of a hand as Japanese gamers did, seeing the game release over there on October 30th, 2008, roughly a month and a half after everyone else's.
  • Stillborn Franchise: Pure was not meant to be a one-and-done deal, as Black Rock had actually pitched a sequel to this game in 2009, but Disney shot it down. With Black Rock's demise in 2011 and the game's eventual fall into obscurity, it's safe to say that cancelation is not going to be reconsidered by Disney anytime soon.
