- The ending of the Charl arc was originally going to be a short film. However, the global pandemic forced Patrick to extend the arc for far longer than he had intended. So when the time came to film the conclusion, Patrick felt that the amount of backstory and plot threads that had been introduced would require a feature length film to wrap up. Thus, Night of the Coconut was born. Also, Matt was originally going to be the inter dimensional traveller seeking to defeat Charl. When Matt moved away, the role went to Chloe.
- Charl was originally envisioned as a rock with googly eyes but Patrick felt that a coconut would be funnier. He was especially grateful for the change after Everything Everywhere All at Once featured sentient rocks with googly eyes.
