• What Could Have Been:
  • Word of God reveals in a reddit AMA that Ku was originally meant to permanently die after her encounter with Shriek. This didn't sit right for playtesters who grew to like Ku. After some story changes, Ku's condition was changed to that of a coma, but it still kept the story forward. In the end, bringing Ku back to life avoided undermining Kuro's sacrifice in The Blind Forest and struck a bittersweet balance.
  • An early story draft would've specified Shriek being inevitably linked to the Decay, because she was born from it. This caused her to spread decay, both intentionally and unintentionally.
  • A cinematic in another early story draft would've showed Shriek turning Howl to stone. However, this aspect of Shriek's character became less important over time, to the point that Moon Studios felt it was better to leave it up to the player's imagination. Because of this, Howl's fate may have been caused by Shriek or simply met his fate in the tarpits of the Silent Woods.
