  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Maureen O'Hara only came out of a 20-year retirement at the time to do this film after meeting John Candy, whom she later described as one of the best leading men she had ever worked with and who reminded her of her mentor Charles Laughton.
    • The two of them appeared together in October 1991 on the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. During the joint interview O'Hara expressed her belief that Candy already showed he had the potential to be a great dramatic actor in addition to the great comedic actor she believed him to already be. However, her predictions about Candy being able to become a more wide ranging actor were cut short due to Candy's untimely 1994 passing.
  • California Doubling: Most of the movie was shot on location in Chicago, Illinois, but a couple scenes (such as the train station) were filmed in western Michigan.
  • What Could Have Been: Daniel Stern was the original choice to play Sal, but Stern turned it down to work on City Slickers.
