• The Other Marty:
  • In the original pilot, Lucas’ best friend was named Reagan and portrayed by Samantha Sheldon. The final episode renamed and recast the character into Bethany Joy Lenz’s Haley James. Sheldon was still credited for her work, as the character can be still be seen in certain shots - such as Whitey calling on Lucas at school, or during the basketball game.
  • The scene with most of the basketball team being suspended was reshot after the series was picked up - the Principal was recast with Shawn Shepard, and Bryan Greenberg makes a brief cameo as Jake Jagielski before his formal introduction in the following episode.
• Throw It In!: Lucas’ first words to Peyton are “That’s me inside your head” - quoting the NoFX song “Linoleum”. The script called for Lucas to simply repeat the sentence, but Chad Michael Murray instead sang the line, which meant that the production had to pay to licence the song.
