  • Creator Backlash:
The script was...not that good. The writer told me he was going to fix everything. I was in his house, he shook my hand, he promised me, but he didn't fix it.
    • Joe Eszterhas disowned the final film:
The script was taken and destroyed many years later by Jean-Claude Van Damme. It lost its sensitivity, it lost everything. I don't like to remember that movie.
  • Hostility on the Set: Rosanna Arquette did not like working with Mr. Van Damme.
  • Mid-Development Genre Shift: The film was originally a character-driven drama without action sequences, the only retaining element being an escaped convict who falls in love with a neighboring widow and becomes a father figure to her children.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Rosanna Arquette stated that she did the film because the good roles were few and far between.
  • What Could Have Been: The role of Sam was originally meant for Mel Gibson.
  • Working Title: Pals.
