• Dawson Casting: In the series, Vic (who's seventeen at the start) is played by twenty-six year old Ashleigh Cummings. Similar age gaps exist with the actors who play other teenage characters. Vic comes a lot closer to the actress' real-life age in the second season, thanks to an eight-year Time Skip.
• Executive Meddling: More like 'parental meddling':
  Joe Hill: When I wrote NOS4A2, I wrote a really bleak ending, and I was artistically committed to it, come hell or high water — right up until Mum read it. She said, 'You know, Joe, that ending really won’t do.' I was like, 'Aww, all right.' My artistic integrity lasted about 15 seconds on the phone with my mum.
• Fake American: American main character Vic is played by Australian Ashleigh Cummings.
• Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: Subterranean Press released a limited edition that includes illustrations by Gabriel Rodriguez, an alternate ending, a novella that was cut from the novel and — if you got the lettered edition — a replica of Charlie Manx's autopsy bone mallet.
• Separated-at-Birth Casting: In the TV series, Ashleigh Cummings (Vic) looks like Jason David (Vic's son Wayne) with their facial structure, eyes and hair close enough that it was quite believable she is his mother.
• Underage Casting: Vic's parents in the series are played by actors only eleven and fourteen years older than her actor, respectively (though of course, Vic's actor is significantly older than her character).
