Trivia / Mystery Science Theater 3000 S12 E05: Killer Fish

• Reality Subtext: The opening sequence of the film switches back and forth between two different scenes: one is an exciting action scene, and the other a slow-paced character-building scene with the villain. The crew comments on this with Crow saying "I can't decide which I like better: the high-stakes heist in an exploding oil refinery, or this backgammon game!" and Jonah answers "Backgammon game for sure." The joke seems obvious, asking why the movie keeps going back to this boring backgammon scene. If one has seen the full version of Killer Fish, however, one realizes that the heist was actually mostly Padding, with numerous shots of the characters giving each other pensive looks and not speaking. In all, Mystery Science Theater 3000 edited out over half of the heist, but didn't cut any of the backgammon game. So when they said they preferred the game, they were probably being serious.
