• Actor Allusion: The fact that Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie have the same actress is mocked a bit, when Rainbow Dash can somehow tell their identical-sounding screams apart.
• Blooper: When Pinkie assaults Spike with cake, her Cutie Mark fails to render, leaving her with a blank flank.
• First Appearance: Of Junebug, the pony whom Spike tries to take the flower basket from.
• Prop Recycling: The objects in Spike's hoard mentioned under Call-Back. It's unlikely that he could have obtained an identical trophy or football from ponies on the street. There's also several other elements seen from earlier episodes (the punch bowl, a scooter that looks very much like Scootaloo's (which he also attempted to take), the kitchen sink, and so on).
• What Could Have Been: Back when it was "Giving Dangerously", the episode was going to be a Christmas special. This was changed when "Hearths Warming Eve" was conceptualised, but the core plot of the episode didn't change by moving the setting to a birthday.
• Working Title: Had two: first "Giving Dangerously", then "Attack of the 50 Foot Dragon".
