- It's Been Done: A meta-example. Yahtzee received several E-Mails noting the similarity between this book and a webcomic that also featured an undead mage in a World Of Warcraft-like environment. His response to this was that he didn't know of this series while writing it. And besides, the similarities between the two are vague at best (Jim is apathetic; Richard is hilariously malevolent, for example).
The novel receives various Call Backs in Yahtzee's other books. In Jam, one of the programmers who worked on the game treats the hard-drive its stored on as a MacGuffin and threatens to Eye Scream anyone who tries to make him leave it behind, and several characters in Differently Morphous play MOGWorld. The only Yahtzee novelverse that had not acknowledged Mogworld was the Jacques McKeown books, which was rectified in the third and final book "Will Leave The Galaxy For Good".
