At Hamilton Valley High School, things are as you would expect it to be. Seniors run the school, ordering the freshmen around like their personal lapdogs. Juniors are focused on their schoolwork now more than ever, and sophomores? Sophomores are in that awkward stage where they don't know who they are, where they belong, or what they want to do when they graduate. So they do what you'd expect any sophomore in high school to do - live. They branch out their friend groups, get rid of old ones - they even go to parties. - Cruel Cheerleader: Athena plays this trope straight, in sophomore year, she starts off as a mean cheerleader and her three cheerleading friends to take a part of bullying other students.
- Silvia is a lesser extent of it, despite her ways, she is also a decent person deep down.
- Girl Posse: Silvia has formed one with Charlotte and Sara, her two friends/minions. Also, Athena is also included with this.

- Gay Guy Seeks Popular Jock: Tristian, an openly gay outcast student falls in love with Chase, a closeted bisexual popular guy.
- Good Parents: Chase’s parents who are good, loving and supportive parents to their kids.

- Subverted with Charlotte, who appears to be a Mock Millionaire all along to maintain her image.
- Second Year Protagonist: Childhood friends, Chase and Daniela started their sophomore year.
- We Used to Be Friends: Athena is this to Coraline and Tristian. They were friends in freshman year until Athena discovers popularity, got herself from extreme makeover in the summer and she abandoned them to hangout with the cool kids.
