  • Disowned Adaptation: When developer Greg Tavares was notified of a romhack of the game titled M.C. Mario circulating around bootleg markets that replaced the characters with Mario, he said that while the idea was amusing, he overall was disappointed that money was being made off his work.
  • Dolled-Up Installment: In the US, the Game Boy port was rebranded as a 7-Up game: Spot: The Cool Adventure.
  • Licensed Game: For McDonalds using its McDonaldland characters.
  • No Export for You: The game was ported to the Commodore 64, the Amiga, the Atari ST, and the Game Boy but those versions were exclusive to Europe.
  • Screwed by the Network: It was originally supposed to be an easy payday for the developers, intended to be part of a Happy Meal promotion according to developer Chris Gregg. This fell through, and it essentially ended up being an advergame on toy store shelves.
