- Sequel Gap: It took five years after their third album to release an album with any new material, with said album being an EP with a Greatest Hits Album attached to it, and another five years from that to release their fourth full studio album. After a hiatus, they reconvened with the intent of heavily touring for some time before going back into the studio. But when a certain worldwide pandemic forced them to push their world tour back several times over a total of three years, they eventually decided said tour should be in support of a new album, and Where the Light Goes was released in 2023, eleven years after their previous album.
- 10-Minute Retirement: Kyle Cook actually left Matchbox Twenty in 2016, citing Creative Differences, but decided to come back the following year. Given that MB20 were essentially on a hiatus from touring at the time and not releasing music, this change to the band's Long-Runner Line-up went largely unnoticed.
- Throw It In!: Kyle Cook admitted in a songwriter's session interview that the guitar bend that opens up "Bent" was actually a mistake — one that he attributed to him forgetting the song's key due to the capo — but the band liked it so much that they decided to keep it in the recording.
- What Could Have Been: According to Rob, had Paul not come up with the name Matchbox Twenty, they were going to call themselves "Wood".
