Trivia / Marina (1999)

Go To

  • Executive Meddling: Zafón stated in the 2007's preface that he had trouble with executives "trying to present the novel as something it wasn't".
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: While Marina is definitely considered Zafón's best young adult novel, how it compares to his adult work is a more diverse field of opinion. However, in the 2007 preface, Zafón went to reveal Marina as the favorite among his novels and the most personal one regardless of its success or the critics' opinion.
  • Troubled Production: According to Zafón, the novel's pre-2007 editions were plagued by editorial meddling, legal trouble and even fraud attempts, and the book almost was pulled out of print as a result. The situation was only solved in its reedition, eight whole years after the novel's first release, which even includes a preface by Zafón himself explaining the ordeal in general lines.
