* BeamMeUpScotty:
** Max's black coupe. It is a Pursuit Special, but is often mistakenly called the Interceptor, the designation of his yellow patrol car (and also Roop and Charlie's patrol car), by fans, because [[RuleOfCool it sounds cooler]]. And not just by fans -- in ''Road Warrior'', it's described as "the last of the V8 Interceptors" by the mechanic.
** Max is never referred to onscreen as Mad Max. The nearest anyone comes to it is when Johnny screams at Max that he is mad when he is handcuffed by the ankle to a car rigged to explode.
* DeletedScene: [[http://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max/filming-locations/mad-max-cut-scenes/index.html The Mad Max Movies page]] lists various scenes that were cut from the first movie, but were said to have shown up in early cuts of the US version, especially on cable and VHS/Betamax. One deleted scene was said to have the biker gang return to Main Force Patrol headquarters and [[KillEmAll kill the remaining MFP officers]]. That [[FridgeBrilliance may explain]] [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse the absence of Max's comrades]] when he goes hunting for the bikers.
* [[FakeNationality Fake Australian]]: Because Mel Gibson gets a pass (he was born in NY, but raised in Australia), there is Tina Turner in ''Beyond Thunderdome'', and everyone in ''Fury Road'' (Max, Nux and "Splendid": British; Furiosa: South African; "Capable" and "Knowing": American).
* FountainOfExpies: Practically EVERY apocalyptic fiction (with the ''{{Fallout}}'' series in particular) features raiders modeled after Wez's costume and hairstyle.
** Max himself is the template for the typical lone wasteland wanderer. Entertainment Weekly noted that the characters played by Kevin Costner in ''Film/{{Waterworld}}'' and ''Film/ThePostman'' are copycat descendants of Max.
* HeyItsThatGuy:
** Wez is Bennett from ''Film/{{Commando}}''. Seems that he didn't need the girl after all.
** Nobody should trust the Warrior Woman. [[Series.{{Farscape}} She's a]] [[ObligatoryJoke plant.]]
** The Gyro Captain is Zedd from ''Series/LegendOfTheSeeker''. And [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings The Mouth of Sauron]]. And he's in a bunch of other stuff.
** Papagallo is also Jared Syn.
** Goose would later become [[Series/SeaPatrol a commander in the Navy]].
* StarMakingRole: For Mel Gibson.
* ThrowItIn: The mook sent flying through the air as the result of crashing into the car that Max shoots in the truck chase sequence in ''The Road Warrior'' was not scripted, but looked too awesome to leave out.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** In ''Mad Max 2'', it was originally going to be revealed near the end of the film that Lord Humungus was in fact Max's old Main Force Patrol partner Jim Goose, who was horribly burned (but not confirmed to be dead) in the first movie. While this didn't make it into the film, some elements of the final product might be leftover hints:
## Humungus' scoped pistol is a very similar weapon to the standard sidearm used by the MFP (albeit a different model)[[note]] for the record, MFP's issue weapon is a Smith and Wesson Model 28, the utility version of the Model 27, the first .357 Magnum revolver. Humungus uses a [[Film/DirtyHarry .44 Magnum Model 29.]][[/note]], and other members of his pack use modified police patrol vehicles.
## He appears to have terrible burn scars underneath his mask, as evidenced by the back of his head, though the rest of his body is completely unblemished.
## His speeches about losing the people you care about and "ending the suffering" seem to hint at a more conflicted and tragic personality.
** Mel Gibson got the part in the first movie because the night before he'd been in a bar fight and only showed up at the casting because he was supporting his friend who was auditioning (his friend was cast as Jim Goose, for the record). He was so beat up that when he came back a few weeks later, they almost didn't recognize him.
** The Pursuit Special was originally supposed to have been built around a Ford Mustang, but the budget didn't stretch far enough to import one.
* Editing mistake? In Mad Max 2, during the final chase scene, Max hits the brakes to shake off Wez who was on top of the truck's cabin. Wez slips and falls to his apparent death in front of the moving truck. Later on, Max makes a u-turn in an effort to lose some of his pursuers and the camera shot shows us the truck well enough to see Wez is not in the vehicle's front bumpers, yet by the time Max is trying to make the Feral Kid reach for the remaining bullet in the truck's hood, Wez springs up in front to fetch the kid. Apparently he grabbed a hold in front of the truck all the time, yet the u-turn shot makes it clear he wasn't there.
