  • Creator's Favourite Episode: Fritz Lang cited the film multiple times as his favourite of his lengthy filmography, largely due to the drama and social critique he was able to bring.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Fritz Lang, known for his unreasonable and borderline cruel treatment of actors, shot the scene of Beckert being mobbed and dragged down the stairs over twenty times, by the end of which Peter Lorre was begging him to stop. It's thought that this helped to create Lorre's sweaty, nervous, passionate performance in his monologue, shot immediately after.
  • Missing Episode: At its Berlin premiere, the film's runtime was 117 minutes. The current, "most complete" version is 111 minutes. It's not clear what's in those lost six minutes.
  • Referenced by...:
    • The Ozzy Osbourne song Mr. Tinkertrain, about a serial killer who targets young girls, uses footage from the film in the music video.
    • Emesis Blue uses the film rather cleverly when Jeremy picks up a copy to watch at home. As he's watching, the sound effects from the film begin to reflect what's happening in real life, such as the child playing with the ball as Jeremy tosses a ball between his hands. While watching, he suddenly realizes his mother has gone silent, and looks up from the screen. We hear his mother's murderer whistling 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' while holding her head, just before attacking Jeremy.
  • Star-Making Role: For Peter Lorre.
