* CreatorBacklash: While this film was set to be Creator/HughJackman's final outing as Wolverine, Jackman himself noted that he very quickly regretted having it advertised as such, as he noted that after watching ''Film/{{Deadpool|2016}}'', he wanted to do a ''Film/FortyEightHrs''-style comedy as his character alongside Creator/RyanReynolds. As such, he was more than willing to do a final RoleReprise of the character for the third film in the ''Deadpool'' franchise.

** Fans had expected that a film influenced by ''Old Man Logan'' would be Creator/HughJackman's finale as the character for quite some time.
** Almost everyone called that the hand holding Logan's was X-23's.
** The official Instagram account for the film posted teaser images at precisely 10:23am EST. Many fans immediately picked up on the unusual timing of the posts and began speculating as to its meaning. The two most popular theories were that the trailer would drop on October 23 (disproved -- it was released on the 20th) or that it was a hint at X-23's presence in the film (which had yet to be officially confirmed despite significant evidence for it) because X is the Roman numeral 10, and thus 10/23 becomes X/23. Sure enough, on 10:23am on October 23 a new teaser image was posted confirming that Dafne Keen was indeed playing Laura Kinney.
** Many viewers also guessed that Logan, Xavier, and Caliban would die in the film.

** Hugh Jackman has commented that this film takes place in its own timeline. However this directly contradicts James Mangold's own remarks, in which he states the 2029 setting was chosen specifically to allow for the end of ''Days of Future Past'', and avoid interfering with continuity. Mangold later clarified Jackman's remarks and confirmed that the film ''does'' indeed take place about five years after the "good future" ending of ''Days of Future Past'', and not in another new timeline. The minor time skip to 2029 allows its background events to occur and set up the new status quo in time for the film. Once the movie came out, a handful of {{Continuity Nod}}s that doubled as {{Continuity Snarl}}s suggested that the film takes place in its own continuity after all, or at least the reset timeline with a heavy amount of BroadStrokes in place.

* MilestoneCelebration: The movie was released in 2017, the centennial of Creator/JackKirby. Even though Kirby did not have anything to do with the creation of ComicBook/{{Wolverine}}, he ''did'' co-create the ComicBook/XMen, the team that Logan is most associated with, as well as the concept of mutants in Marvel-related contexts. In particular, Kirby did co-create Professor X. ''Logan'' thus was the first major superhero movie (out of ''five'') to feature Kirby (co)-creations, the others being ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2'' (Ego the Living Planet and Groot), ''Film/SpiderManHomecoming'' (Iron Man), ''Film/ThorRagnarok'' (Thor and the Hulk) and ''Film/JusticeLeague2017'' (Steppenwolf and the New Gods), and the only one to be released by Creator/TwentiethCenturyFox.
* NewbieBoom: The unique nature of the film -- its violence, its R-Rating, its depressing story -- brought many viewers to it who hadn't seen the earlier solo-Wolverine films and who were otherwise not up-to-speed on the X-Men series. It's likely the film's BroadStrokes low-continuity approach was designed ''specifically'' for this effect, since ''Logan'' gradually became the most successful and critically acclaimed film of the entire series.
* NoExportForYou: ''[[Film/DeadpoolNoGoodDeed No Good Deed]]'' was not featured in theaters outside the U.S. and Canada. In response to disappointed fans on not seeing the short worldwide, Fox released it online and eventually averted in the UK a week after the release.

** Creator/PatrickStewart claimed that much of the dialogue at the dinner table scene, in which Logan and Charles Xavier tell the family about the school for mutants, was improvised by the actors at the request of director James Mangold, after having filmed takes of scripted dialogue.
* TorchTheFranchiseAndRun: Hugh Jackman claims that James Mangold finally convinced him to take this attitude to the film. They approached it as if it was the last X-Men movie, and certainly the last time Jackman would play Wolverine. They relegated most of the continuity to BroadStrokes while refusing to clarify whether it's a canonical future or not, leaving it to Fox producers to handle it. Its ending makes it impossible to conceive of an X-Men film set after it, at least one with any of the classic characters, and its plot ties up or ignores any remaining loose ends. Off-screen drama a year after the film, i.e. the Disney-Fox buyout, essentially makes this the last real X-Men film from the earlier era, unblemished and unaffected by any external factors which isn't the case with ''Film/DarkPhoenix'' and ''Film/TheNewMutants''.

** Not quite to the same extent as ''Film/{{Deadpool|2016}}'', but present nonetheless: The official Instagram account posted a new teaser image from the film almost every day at precisely 10:23am EST. Most of the posts were innocuous — shots of a puddle in the middle of the street with a face reflected in the water, a bathroom stall with "Where are all the mutants?" scratched on the wall, etc. — but occasionally letting slip more significant news, such as confirming Boyd Holbrook would be playing Donald Pierce. Many fans immediately noticed the pattern, particularly the unusual choice of time. This led to widespread speculation as to whether there was a hidden meaning. Among the most popular theories was that it meant the trailer would be released on October 23, or that it was a hint of X-23's presence in the film (October being the 10th month of the year, and X being the Roman numeral 10, means 10/23 becomes X/23). As noted under IKnewIt above, the trailer dropped several days earlier. However on October 23, 2016 another teaser image (again at 10:23am) confirmed Dafne Keen's casting as X-23.

** Originally, X-23 was planned to be a teenager like her comics counterpart, partly due to concerns as to whether a younger character would be viewed as a legitimate threat. The change was made because Mangold wanted to break away from the convention of casting a very attractive teenage actress and putting her in a "hot" uniform, as well as a general shift away from a Teen Hero mold. The teenage X-23 remained far enough into production that [[https://68.media.tumblr.com/bba3bfe5b3c3b5ce85fef50b0ec920c8/tumblr_on81fqg7xa1vnrsmro1_540.jpg concept art was created]] for that iteration of the character.

** Creator/LievSchreiber was approached to reprise his role as Comicbook/{{Sabretooth}} from the [[Film/XMenOriginsWolverine first Wolverine movie]], but scheduling conflicts with ''Series/RayDonovan'' prevented this from happening. He would've appeared in Oklahoma City as a casino owner, with Logan and the others surprisingly going to him for ''[[HeelFaceTurn help]]'' this time.
** Creator/IanMcKellen expressed an interest in returning as ComicBook/{{Magneto}}.
** [[Film/TheNeonDemon Cliff Martinez]] was originally hired to do the score but for unknown reasons, dropped out and was replaced by [[Film/ThreeTenToYuma2007 Marco Beltrami]], who has previously worked with Mangold before on ''Film/TheWolverine''.
** [[http://screenrant.com/if-x-men-were-in-mcu-hugh-jackman-would-keep-playing-wolverine/ Jackman has remarked]] that if a crossover between the Film/XMenFilmSeries and the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse had been possible at the time he announced his retirement from the role, he may have held off on that decision.
---> '''Jackman:''' If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the [[ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk Hulk]] obviously, with [[Comicbook/IronMan Iron Man]] but there’s a lot of smarter people with [=MBAs=] who can’t figure that out.
** Earlier drafts of the movie featured explicit flashbacks to the "Westchester Incident" where Xavier lost control of his powers, which resulted in 600 injuries and the deaths of several X-Men. The scene was cut because it was decided that leaving what exactly happened ambiguous (including which X-Men actually died) made the whole thing even more tragic. Mangold also felt that showing the death of the X-Men would make the film about ''them'' rather than about Logan and Charles, while also knowing that the scene would likely be more expensive than the rest of the film due to the [[Creator/JamesMarsden high]][[Creator/FamkeJanssen -profile]] [[Creator/HalleBerry cameos]] [[Creator/KelseyGrammer required]].
** [[http://screenrant.com/logan-hugh-jackman-ending-wolverine/ Hugh Jackman said that originally he wanted]] Wolverine to survive the events of the movie.
** A few changes from the final shooting script:
*** When Logan arrives at the motel to pick up Gabriella and Laura, he finds strange scratch marks in the pavement that hint at Laura's true nature. Additionally, [[AssholeVictim the manager of the motel would also have been killed by the Reavers]].
*** Several moments which reference Logan and Laura's enhanced senses were removed, such as Logan recognizing Gabriella is lying to him at the motel, and Laura sniffing Nate Munson.
*** A slight extension of the scene between Laura and Nate in his room has Laura demonstrating her intelligence, by easily solving a difficult problem on the math homework that Nate is struggling with.
*** In the final battle, Elena (the girl who controls plants) would have been shot and killed by the Reavers. Lizard Boy was also shot in the script, though it wasn't revealed whether he survived.
** Logan was going to have a dog at one point.
** There was going to be a scene where Laura finds a photo of Jean Grey in Logan's jacket and asks if Jean is her mother, prompting Logan to crumple the photo and toss it away.
** In an early script, Logan and Charles were living in an old Kentucky bourbon mill.
** The water tank Xavier lives in was originally upright.

** The official Instagram account for the film posted teaser images at precisely 10:23am EST. Many fans immediately picked up on the unusual timing of the posts and began speculating as to its meaning. The two most popular theories were that the trailer would drop on October 23 ({{Jossed}}. It posted on the 20th) or that it was a hint at X-23's presence in the film (which had yet to be officially confirmed despite significant evidence for it) because X is the Roman numeral 10, thus 10/23 becomes X/23. Sure enough, on 10:23am on October 23 a new teaser image was posted confirming that Dafne Keen was indeed playing Laura Kinney.

** Due to a mistake in casting info, it was thought that [[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm8290226/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 Sienna Novikov]] would be playing X-23. However, it was confirmed in the trailer and by Fox that [[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6748436/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t32 Dafne Keen]] was cast in the role. Novikov served as Keen's stunt double.
** As noted above under IKnewIt, many fans speculated that the first trailer would post on October 23, 2016 due to the strange timing of the marketing account's Instagram posts. The trailer instead dropped three days earlier on October 20.
** A report on December 28, 2016 indicated that Creator/RyanReynolds would be appearing in TheStinger as Deadpool, however James Mangold and Reynolds himself both quickly denied the character's involvement almost as soon as the rumor surfaced. [[ExactWords As it turned out, they weren't lying.]] The movie does not have a stinger, but it '''does''' have a short teaser before the movie that's officially attached to the movie's running time--and it has absolutely nothing to do with ''Logan'' itself.
** When the film's R-Rating was revealed, several detractors believed that the film was simply playing FollowTheLeader to the success of ''Film/Deadpool2016'', with an increase in BloodierAndGorier violence and a handful of [[ClusterFBomb curse words]] (additionally, there are several LeaningOnTheFourthWall moments such as the X-Men comics). However, both Simon Kinberg and Hugh Jackman have stated that the R-Rating was always planned, due to several elements such as X-24 and the brutal treatment of the [[ChildSoldier X-23 kids]] being considered too dark for a PG-13 rating.

** When Logan, Laura, and Charles are driving they are pulled over by a police officer due to Logan speeding. The officer becomes suspicious thinking that Laura may have been kidnapped due to her seeming inability to speak, however Charles is able to save the situation by stating that Logan was speeding so the trio could get to see Mount Rushmore quicker. Now believing they are just a family on vacation, the police officer leaves, giving Logan a ticket.
** When Logan, Laura and Charles are with the Munson family, during dinner, Logan is asked if he's married. Logan is unsure how to respond but Charles says yes, but she passed away. Charles thinking of the original timeline (instead of the revised timeline), brings up Jean Grey and the fact that Logan killed her. Seeing the obvious nervous reactions of the Munsons by this comment, Logan tries to say that Charles is confused and quickly rushes the pair out of the room.
** While Logan is asleep in Eden he is awoken by Bobby playing with Wolverine and Sabretooth action figures. Bobby asks if Sabretooth was a real person since Logan told Laura that most stuff from the comic is all lies. Logan tells the boy that Sabretooth was real and that the pair were in a program similar to the children. He tells Bobby that the pair did Terrible things together, but Bobby says that he's making up for it by helping Laura and the kids, however, Logan says he doesn't know what he's doing and goes back to sleep.
** An extended version of the field hospital scene would have shown Pierce giving the photograph of the children recovered from the Munson farm to Rice, and explained Pierce had discovered the connection with the X-Men comics. The scene then revealed Rice had at least one of the nurses responsible for the escape in custody. [[IHaveYourWife And her family was being held as well.]]
** After the Munson Massacre, when Logan grabs Laura to take her away, they spot a heavily burnt Caliban crawling out of the burning wreckage towards them. However, Caliban dies of his wounds and Logan and Laura are forced to leave. Creator/JamesMangold stated that this scene was cut due to him feeling it robbed the character of a more heroic sacrifice and would make the audience wonder why Logan wouldn't take his body to bury as he did Xavier.
** During the chase through the forest, there was a scene cut where Jonah, one of the X-23 children uses his puppet master like ability to take control of a Reavers body, instead of keeping him alive as a bodyguard he makes the mercenary shoot himself. This scene was cut due to Mangold not wanting to show too much power in the children because the audience would then wonder why they didn't help Logan fight X-24.
