  • Inspiration Nod: The studio has admitted to being influenced by Studio Ghibli and many areas around the Maw have been pointed out by fans to feel like Spirited Away, especially the dining area. They also took inspiration for the game's tone from The City of Lost Children.
    • There are optional masks that Six can receive that include a Tengu mask and a Kitsune mask. Both give a nod towards the Japanese theme seen later on in the Maw, and both represent tricksters.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The interactive demo shows Six being able to whistle to attract enemy attention, which is not present in the final game.
    • Originally, there was going to be a bellhop enemy.
    • Back when the game was titled Hunger, the game had a slightly different setup: Six was explicitly in the Maw because she had been abducted from her family and enslaved, along with many other human children, and part of the game (or at least an opening cutscene) would have had Six toiling for the sake of the Maw's guests before her escape into the Maw's bowels. Concept art shows Six bathing a guest (standing on their fat folds with a scrub brush in hand) and the existence of a third Chef.
      • The concept of Six bathing a bloated Guest is revisited in the podcast, in which an unlucky boy Noone meets in her dreams is snatched by a Bather and used as a scrub brush.
  • Working Title: The game was originally announced under the title Hunger in May 2014, but was retitled Little Nightmares because searching online for "Hunger game" would return results for The Hunger Games.
