- Many people appeared on Later during Bob Costas' stint at least three or more times, including Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Lewis, Larry King, Dan Rather, Robert Klein, Dana Carvey, John Goodman, Elayne Boosler, Mike Wallace, Pete Hamill, Bob Greene and Jeff Greenfield.
- Missing Episode: Early in the first season of the show during Bob Costas' run, only one episode never made it to air. A show with comedian Judy Tenuta was never broadcast due to her wearing an eccentric outfit which wasn't the tone that show executives were aiming for. A clip where Costas is seen wearing pig glasses after being given by Tenuta did pop up on various specials of the show as well as when Costas returned as a guest during Greg Kinnear's run in August 1994.
- What Could Have Been: Before Greg Kinnear officially signed on to replace Bob Costas as host, NBC had considered over two dozen candidates for the job, including MTV's Chris Connelly (who had filled in for Costas on two different occasions in 1993) and Rolling Stone writer Bill Zehme.
