• California Doubling: While set both in Los Angeles and a primeval world, the series is filmed in Australia.
• Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Zyra Gorecki, who plays Izzy, is an amputee, and the character's disability plays a major role in the first five minutes of the pilot.
• Fake American: Due to being filmed in Australia, several of the cast members are Australian but play Americans. Others are Canadians. Main character Gavin's portrayed by Eoin Macken, who's Irish.
• Portrayed by Different Species: Although not explicitly identified as such in the show, the camels in 10,000 BC California are presumably meant to be the extinct Camelops hesternus, but they are portrayed by living dromedary camels.
• Separated-at-Birth Casting: In what is a clever bit of foreshadowing, Zyra Gorecki (Izzy) and Diesel La Torraca (Isaiah) look like they could be real life relatives. Which makes sense given Isaiah is her father from the past.
