Trivia / King in Black

Go To

  • Lying Creator: Donny Cates freely admitted to being one on Twitter after being confronted over having stated that King in Black was just the ending of the first act of his Venom saga. Another example is his statement that Knull was one of the most-powerful eldritch beings in the Marvel Universe and that he couldn't be killed, since other entities like the Chaos King and even Gorr the God Butcher — who was established in Jason Aaron's Thor: God of Thunder run to be weaker than the original wielder of the Necrosword — have had better showings than Knull, and the fifth issue ended with Eddie Brock vaporizing Knull in the Sun — which the Void and even Gorr have withstood with little-to-no harm.
  • Recycled Script: The Union was originally solicited as a tie-in series for Empyre, but then abruptly canceled and left uncompleted (along with a few other planned tie-ins) because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was later announced that The Union would instead debut as a King in Black tie-in, because the similarities between both storylines (i.e. alien invasions) allowed for an easy swap of the Cotati (the main antagonists of Empyre) with Knull's symbiote army.
  • Schedule Slip: Venom #35/#200, the epilogue of the story, was delayed 3 times. It was originally meant to drop on April 14, then it was pushed back three weeks to May 5. It was pushed back over a month later to June 9. However, due to the preordering causing the printer to literally run out of paper making more issues, it was delayed one extra week to June 16.
