- Creator Backlash: When asked about the group's lost 2011-12-era music, Gus said it would be up to torrenters and direct messaging, finding it a mix of "pretty cool stuff and kinda embarrassing stuff," though he doesn't specify which is which.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Outside of "Why Aren't You Dancing?" and its B-sides, good luck trying to find any of the band's old music. All of it has been scrubbed from the group's official profiles, and only "Weapons Grade" and "Ms. World" have resurfaced.
- Meaningful Release Date: Civilisation II was released on April 21, 2021, a full year after the date featured on one of the track's titles, "21/04/20", a date ironically itself chosen for its insignificance as a mundane, uneventful day during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- Newbie Boom: The band gained quite the influx of gamer fans thanks to their widely-memed-on Theme Tune "It's Bugsnax!" for Bugsnax.
- Reality Subtext:
- The chorus of "Graduation" has the line "Today's my graduation, I've done my dissertation \ Even got a hat I can throw, but I'm not going." As it turns out, nobody in KKB attended their graduations: Jamie was on a plane, Gus was busy reaching a deadline for the cover art of Intro Bonito the same day, and Sarah simply chose not to attend.
- Much of the more existential and nervous atmosphere and sound of Time 'n' Place came after several personal tragedies during 2017 (including the death of several loved ones and Sarah finding out her childhood home had been demolished), motivating Gus and Jamie's desire to return to a more visceral garage band sound from their youth.
- More specifically, "Visiting Hours" is based on conversations between Gus' parents while his father was in the high dependency unit from a serious brain injury. According to Gus in a listening party thread, the day before Time 'n' Place was released, his mom realized what the song was about and responded with tears and hugs.
- Serendipity Writes the Plot: "21/04/20" was originally conceived of as part of Civilisation II as an average Day in the Life song before the COVID pandemic hit the world. By the time they had gotten to writing and the world began adjusting, the trio realized they absolutely had to mention the pandemic, and thus it became a song detailing a day of lockdown.
- What Could Have Been:
- A very early tweet from the band, pre-Sarah, stated that they were looking for a new member that speaks Chinese, not Japanese. One wonders how the group's style would turned out if they actually ended up going in this direction, as the J-pop influence would likely not be as apparent, assuming it would even be present at all.
- An early version of "Dump" was called "Pericoronitis", with lyrics about the titular condition (a literal growing pain from wisdom teeth found in many young adults).
- According to an interview with Anthony Fantano, Civilisation I originally came about as being a 4-track companion piece to Time 'n' Place, expanding on the themes of past, present, and future, but applied to a much broader scale of human history. As the trio became more excited by the concept, they decided to split it into 2 EPs between 2019 and 2020, but due to complications from the COVID-19 Pandemic, II was pushed back a year later.
