Trivia / Jackie

Go To

  • Ability over Appearance: The actors playing Jackie and Bobby Kennedy don't look a thing like them, but voices and mannerisms are a good match. Natalie Portman as Jackie does especially well with voice and body language, and actually makes you think she looks more like the genuine article than she does. Same with John Carroll Lynch as Lyndon Johnson. David Caves couldn't look less like Clint Hill if he tried, but expresses Hill's guilt, grief and caring with quiet dignity in his few scenes. The only actor in this who really resembles her character is Beth Grant as Ladybird Johnson.
  • Fake Irish: Jackie Kennedy who was half-Irish and a practicing Catholic is played by the Israeli Jewish-American Natalie Portman.
  • Method Acting: In preparation for her role, Natalie Portman watched a lot of videos, interviews and read biographies of Jackie Kennedy. She also spent a year to learn Jackie's New York accent.
  • Production Posse: Many of the cast members, at one point, had worked with Natalie Portman before. In addition, this film is produced by Darren Aronofsky, who had previously directed Portman in Black Swan.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The film's script was written by Noah Oppenheim and was originally meant to be an HBO miniseries.
    • When this film was first announced, Darren Aronofsky was going to direct, with his then-partner Rachel Weisz to star as Jackie. Aronofsky eventually stayed as producer.
