Trivia / J Balvin

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: "Yo Te Lo Dije" was his first song to become famous outside Colombia and his first hit on the US Hot Latin Songs.
  • Two-Hit Wonder: While definitely not this in the Spanish-speaking world, he only got two songs into the Top 40 on the US Hot 100. His 2017 single "Mi Gente" became a worldwide crossover hit, charting at #19 and topping many other charts, with the BeyoncĂ© remix upgrading its American chart to #3. Two years later, he released "RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)" with The Black Eyed Peas for the Bad Boys for Life soundtrack, charting at #26. Because "RITMO" is a sample of Corona's 90's classic "Rhythm of The Night", followed by the hype for said song and movie both dying down, Balvin has since been primarily associated with "Mi Gente" among English-speaking audiences despite his best-selling image and continued collaborations with mainstream artists. He also appeared on Cardi B's #1 smash hit "I Like It" alongside Bad Bunny, but it was as a guest spot and therefore not his hit.
