Trivia / Inside Daisy Clover

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: The film is about the perils of childhood stardom, which is something Natalie Wood definitely went through.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: The song "You're Gonna Hear from Me" (composed and written for the film) became a classic of adult contemporary music.
  • Creator Backlash: Robert Redford resented that Wade (his character) was made bisexual via a line of dialogue (he is gay in the original novel) after basically insisting through the entire production that he should be as heterosexual as possible.
  • Darkhorse Casting: Redford, mainly a Broadway actor at the time, had only appeared in two big screen films before this—a small role in the Anthony Perkins comedy Tall Story and one of the lead roles in the low-budget drama War Hunt. He credited Natalie Wood with choosing him, an "unknown" in his own words.
  • Dawson Casting: 26 year old Natalie Wood as the 15-17 year old Daisy.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Like with West Side Story and The Great Race, Natalie Wood's singing was dubbed (by Jackie Ward here, who already did so on The Great Race). Wood's original performance can be seen and heard here (it did not surface until 2009), and a bit of it can be heard in the film.
  • One for the Money; One for the Art: Natalie Wood accepted to appear in Warner Bros.' escapist blockbuster The Great Race so they would accept to fund and release Inside Daisy Clover, which was a passion project for her.
  • Referenced by...: In the first season of Agent Carter, the name of the dairy company that Peggy Carter investigates at one point is "Daisy Clover".
  • Troubled Production: Natalie Wood made a suicide attempt during the filming in November 1964. She got through the filming with pills and daily analysis.
  • What Could Have Been: Elizabeth Hartman and Patty Duke were two of the actresses considered for the role of Daisy.
