As described in Fort Minor's song "Get Me Gone," the band was encouraged to play down their unique sound and "just be a rock band," but the band stuck to their guns and made the album that they wanted. It was attempted again when their label started a rumor that they had been a manufactured act with ghostwriters producing their songs.
