- First Installment Wins: One of the best-selling albums of the New Millennium and dogged the band for the rest of it's existence the more and more they tried anything different.
- Memetic Mutation: MLG montage parodies on YouTube love using "Crawling". Especially the chorus where it goes "CRAWLING IN MY SKIN!" Chester Bennington's untimely suicide in 2017 turned it into a Discredited Meme, however.
- Periphery Demographic: Even those who hated nu metal enjoyed this album. For example, Neil Peart of Rush called this and the album's follow up Meteora "must-hear favorites".
- Tough Act to Follow: Notoriously so. Because the band carved out such a distinct sound on their first album, literally anything the band did afterwards which deviated from it in the slightest got completely volatile knee-jerk reactions from fans, who demanded the "old Linkin Park" back. The band responded to this with their own volatility by moving as far away from this style as possible.
