Trivia / Helstar

  • Creative Differences: Heavily implied by Jerry Abarca, who stated that he wasn't going to air out dirty laundry, but also alluded to the official story of his departure not being the real story, and made unambiguous by Andre Corbin, who stated that he never got along with James Rivera or Larry Barragan, both of whom clearly disliked him, while also making it clear that he didn't like them either and left because he was sick of the constant tension and ill will that they shared towards him.
  • Creator Backlash: Andre Corbin trashed Twas the Night of a Helish Xmas as a cheap, poor-quality cash grab that did not even come close to capturing what they were like live at that time that he never authorized and would not have backed if he had been given an option to.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While they are a respected act in North America, they are a niche live draw that only plays fests, hometown shows, and the odd one-off surrounding a fest in the US and Canada. The story is very different in Europe, where they play far larger fests and occasionally even tour due to Europe being a far bigger market for power metal.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Andre Corbin had been a big fan of the band since their early days in Houston.
  • Screwed by the Network: According to Andre Corbin, Metal Blade did not treat them as a priority and gave them a shoestring budget for both albums that they recorded for the label, and the tour support that they provided wasn't much better. Their expression of frustration with the label may have been what got them kicked off, as Rivera apparently led a "FUCK METAL BLADE!" chant during a Los Angeles date after complaining about the label onstage; unbeknownst to the band, at least one label staffer was there, and it got back to Brian Slagel and the band found themselves without a label soon after.
