  • Actor-Shared Background: Chilean Lorenza Izzo plays Ruby, Ava's ex-girlfriend, who's a Latina too to judge by her yelling at Ava in Spanish.
  • Award Category Fraud: Hannah Einbender was nominated at the Emmys as a supporting actress despite being Jean Smart's co-lead. The Golden Globes were not fooled however, and placed Einbender in the lead category with Smart.
  • Cast the Expert: Former UFC lightweight and current color commentator Paul "The Irish Dragon" Felder plays DJ's MMA fighter boyfriend. Felder previously had a cameo in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, starring DJ's actress Kaitlin Olson. In Season 2, he's depicted having a bout in the UFC.
  • Playing with Character Type: Christopher McDonald is best known for playing wealthy pricks. Here, his character Marty is set up as Deborah's wealthy antagonist who is trying to kick her out of his casino because she's getting too old. However, as the first season progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that it's Nothing Personal and that Marty actually really likes Deborah.

    • Ava is bisexual, played by Hannah Einbinder who's also bisexual.
    • Lorenza Izzo, who's pansexual, portrays Ava's ex-girlfriend Ruby.
    • Marcus is gay, played by Carl Clemons-Hopkins, who's queer and nonbinary.
    • The "water cop" Wilson (who Marcus briefly dates) is played by Johnny Sibilly, who's queer.
  • What Could Have Been: On the podcast Script Apart, Jen Statsky revealed Marty wasn’t intended to be there, but was a late addition that was suggested by producers.
